Since his childhood, Sebastien, my autistic son, has always been my muse. My perpetual curiosity about what makes him tick and my endeavours to help him cope with life have been my singular purpose for living and a source of inspiration for my writing.

A powerful sequel to my previous book (Raising Sebastien: Realising the Potential of Your Autistic Child), Where Does My Autistic Son Belong depicts my struggles with raising Sebastien when he became a teenager who hit out in aggression and self-injury. It would culminate in our out-of-the-box quest for a solution, which meant tearing apart our family unit.

It wasn’t easy writing this book over these past two years, for it had meant reliving these challenging times and dredging up feelings of guilt and despair. As our heartbreaking decision evolved in tandem with my writing, I was constantly reflecting on these questions: What kind of mother would move her autistic son to another country? Did we do the right thing for Sebastien, for our family?

Ultimately, there would be no smooth ride to a fairy-tale happy ending. Instead, we experienced the best of times and the worst of times. But there is no question that our leap of faith into the unknown opened up new possibilities and brought us into a web of people we would never otherwise have met and transformed our relationship with Sebastien for the better.

Thus it is with great pride, excitement, and gratitude that I seek your help in crowdfunding the publication of this book. All proceeds (after costs) will go towards A Mother’s Wish (90%) and Sebastien (10%) for his uncertain future.

Pending approval of the book by the National Library Board of Singapore, a book launch has also been scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 10 am to 12 noon at the Multi-Purpose Room (B1) at the National Library Building, 100 Victoria Street. The event will be accompanied by a book reading, a slideshow, a Q & A session, and an opportunity to purchase autographed copies of the book.
